A Message From Webster Health Office
Daniel Webster’s health office is staffed full time during school hours. A safe and healthy campus is a schoolwide priority. At times, accidents occur and first aid is provided. For minor injuries and illnesses, the student will be sent back to class after care is given. In case of an injury or illness requiring futher evaluation, care will be provided and the child’s parent/guardian will be contacted immediately. If your child is ill, he/she will be cared for in the health office until an authorized adult arrives.
Emergency Forms:
It is very important that we have current and valid telephone numbers in order to reach you in the event of an emergency or illness during the school day. Keep the school office staff as well as the health office staff alerted throughout the school year of any changes in your phone number or contact information.
Children Who Are Ill:
Please keep sick children home until they are fever free (temperature less than 100.5 degrees Fahrenheitwithout the use of fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours. When not feeling well, your child be most comfortable resting at home and they will not be spreading illness to other students and staff..
Do not send your child to school if he/she has the following symptoms:
- diarrhea or vomiting within the last 24 hours;
- an excessively runny nose, sore throat, and/or cough;
- a fever of 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit or more in the last 24 hours
Children will be sent home for following reasons:
They exhibit signs of a contagious disease or condition such a pink eye, chicken pox, ringworm, impetigo.They must remain home until the condition or disease has been treated. Upon returning to school, the child must go directly to the health office with a note from the child’s medical provider indicating they can return to school.
Medication Policy:
If it is necessary for your child to take medication please be aware that the district has a strict policy in place that includes both prescription and over the counter/non-prescription medications.
For administration of all medicine in school, you must sign a special permission form (available in the health office) in order for any medications to be administered. In such cases, the medical provider must provide written instructions, including the number of days the child will need to take the medication. The child will be supervised in taking his/her medicine at the stated time and in the amount the medical provider has prescribed. If medication is to be continued for a longer period of time than the number of days originally specified, the medical provider must confirm the extended period in writing.
Parents must bring medication in the original container to the health office. The parent must complete a medication administration form in order to administer the medication to the child. Pharmacy directions on the label will be followed and must not be altered.
Under no circumstances will any over-the-counter medications be given to anyone without written consent from parents. Please do not send the medication to school with your child!
Lice Information for Parents:
Head lice (pediculosis) infestation is common in the United States among children 3 – 12 years of age. Head lice are not a health hazard and are not responsible for the spread of any disease. The most common symptom of lice infestation is itching. If you notice your child scratching his or her head often, especially behind the ears or at the nape of the neck, check for lice.It is recommended for every parent to check their child’s hair periodically throughout the school year. Classroom head lice checks are no longer recommended. Children are not excluded from school due to lice.
